Creswell doesn’t show for Moon Bar hearing

Former Kansas University basketball player J.R. Giddens and the man he’s accused of attacking at a local bar were due in court Tuesday, but neither appeared.

Giddens, who has transferred to the University of New Mexico, wasn’t there because he made prior arrangements to have his hearing postponed until Nov. 8. Jeremiah Creswell, 24, surprised his attorney by failing to show.

Instead of issuing a warrant for Creswell’s arrest, District Court Judge Stephen Six rescheduled his hearing for Nov. 1.

“Mr. Creswell will need to be here for that appearance or we’ll issue a bench warrant,” Six said.

Creswell is charged with punching Giddens on May 19 inside the Moon Bar. Giddens is charged with battery and disorderly conduct for allegedly attacking Creswell minutes later outside the bar with a group of people.

Giddens and four other men suffered injuries from a knife that prosecutors say Creswell used to defend himself.
