Chilly day prelude to freezing night

Sunday dawned sunny and mostly clear, but the chill in the air won’t be dissipating any time soon.

Weather forecasters predict freezing temperatures tonight for the Lawrence area and northeastern Kansas.

On Saturday, the National Weather Service in Topeka issued a freeze watch, which will be in effect tonight through Monday morning. A high-pressure system with cold Canadian air will settle into the area, and clear skies and light winds could produce “some of the coldest weather of the season,” according to a statement from the National Weather Service.
