San Francisco ? A woman with her three children – ages 1, 3 and 6 – pushed a stroller down the promenade of Pier 7 along the waterfront Wednesday evening, apparently stripped them of their clothes and threw them into the chilly bay water, police said.

The woman, who has not been identified, is in the custody of the San Francisco Police, and officials continued searching for the bodies of children into the night.

San Francisco Police spokeswoman Maria Oropeza said a man called about 5:30 p.m. saying that a woman had thrown children into the bay.

“Because of the nature of the injuries and the possible fatalities at this time, this case is now assigned to our homicide unit,” San Francisco Police Chief Heather Fong said.
