French composers featured in show

The Spencer Consort will present a Sunday performance titled “Treasures from the French Baroque” at the Countryside United Methodist Church in Topeka.

The program will showcase instrumental and vocal works by French composers heard at the royal court at Versailles, including Marin Marais (1656-1728), Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (1665-1729) and Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755). The Spencer Consort performs on reproductions of instruments from the period, such as baroque flutes, recorders, oboe, cello and harpsichord.

Members of the Spencer Consort include baroque flutists and recorder players John Boulton and Joy Laird, baroque oboist Philip Kates, harpsichordist Elizabeth Egbert Berghout, baroque cellist Paul Laird and mezzo-soprano Katrina Mitchell.

The program will start at

4 p.m. at the church, 3221 S.W. Burlingame Road. Donations will be accepted.
