Seabury falls in regionals

? Seabury Academy saw its volleyball season end Tuesday night with a loss to top-seeded White City in the Class 1A regionals.

The Seahawks defeated Kansas School for the Deaf, 25-17, 25-12, in the first round, then fell to White City, 25-12, 25-14.

Seabury finished with a 15-19 record, including 12-3 against Class 1A opponents.

“We got into trouble when we tried to step out and play 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A,” Seabury coach Craig Friedrichsen said. “We played a lot of 5A in Kansas City, and in tournaments we played a lot of 2A and 3A.”

At regionals, Friedrichsen cited the play of seniors Lindsey Ahlen and Laura Hoffmann, and junior Molly Thurman. Ahlen had 11 kills, and Thurman had 10 kills and three blocks.

Hoffmann was 9-of-10 serving with two aces against White City.

“We played pretty well against White City,” Friedrichsen said. “They served the ball extremely hard. White City had two good middle hitters, so our middle hitters were busy all night long.”

As for the season, Friedrichsen said, “We had a lot of ups and downs. There were nights when we played really well, and there were nights we wish we could do over.”
