Soak up the sun

Unseasonably mild start to week; rain moving in Wednesday night

Sunny skies and temperatures in 80s are on tap today for Lawrence, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s a beautiful start out there — clear skies overhead and not a cloud to be found,” Schack said this morning. “It will be above average today, despite a cold front that will be trying to push through this afternoon.”

At 8:15 a.m., the temperature was 61 degrees, the humidity was 72 percent and winds were calm.

The temperature will climb to a high today of 82 degrees, which is about 14 degrees higher than normal for this date, Schack said. Winds will be 5 to 10 mph from the west, switching to the north later today as a cold front moves in, she said.

Tonight’s skies will be clear, with the temperature dropping off to 53 degrees by early Tuesday morning.

Tuesday’s temperatures will be even warmer than today, climbing to 84 degrees. Tuesday night’s low will fall to only 60 degrees by early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday’s high temperature will be 78 degrees, with clouds arriving late Wednesday, bringing a chance for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night and Thursday, Schack said.
