Temperatures soaring into 80s

Dry, sunny weekend ahead

If you’re heading out to stand in line for tonight’s “Late Night in the Phog” at Kansas University’s Allen Fieldhouse, the weather should cooperate — you’ll find temperatures topping out at 81 degrees.

“We’ll be about 10 degrees above average today,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist. “We’re going to see a lot of sunshine.”

At 8:30 a.m., the temperature was 46 degrees, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were calm. Reith said there were some areas of patchy fog this morning that drivers would need to watch for on their way into work.

“A quick warm-up is in store for us, with a lot of sunshine,” Reith said. Temperatures should rise into the 70s by the early afternoon and climb to the low 80s by late afternoon, when doors open for.Late Night, which runs about 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Winds will be from the southwest today at 5-10 mph, switching to the northwest.

Overnight, Lawrence will have starry skies, with the low falling to 49 degrees by early Saturday morning, Reith said.

“If you’ve got plans this weekend, we’re not expecting any rain or anything like that,” Reith said. “Anything you’ve got planned this weekend, the weather is going to cooperate just fine.”

Saturday’s high will climb to 78 degrees, he said.

Heading out to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City to watch the KU-Oklahoma football game? Temperatures will be in the low 70s at the 6 p.m. kickoff and fall into the 60s through the game, Reith said.

Sunday’s morning low will be 50 degrees, with the high climbing to 76, he said.
