A 5-kilometer race Oct. 22 will benefit families and staff of Desire Street Ministries and Academy in New Orleans who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

The race, sponsored by Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 3312 Calvin Drive, starts at 8 a.m. at the church. Registration starts at 7 a.m., or forms also are available at Francis Sporting Goods, 731 Mass.; Signs of Life bookstore, 722 Mass.; at the church; or online at www.gepc.org.

In lieu of a registration fee, runners are asked to purchase $20 gift cards to Target, Wal-Mart or J.C. Penney Co. Checks also can be made out to the church, whose members then will purchase gift cards.
