Temperatures surge into the 70s

Temperatures will climb into the 70s today, with increasing clouds moving in this afternoon, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We’ll be in and out of some sun today,” Schack said. The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m.

Overnight, Lawrence received about 0.08 an inch of rain, which was recorded at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

At 8 a.m., the airport reported the temperature was 53 degrees, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were east to southeast at 5 to 10 mph.

“There’s nothing heading into our direction except a few clouds to deal with,” Schack said.

Schack said today’s high temperature will climb to 71 degrees, just under the average high for today’s date of 72 degrees. She said more clouds will move in this afternoon.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 48 degrees by early Thursday morning, she said.

Schack’s forecast calls for Thursday’s high to be 73, with winds out of the west at 5 to 10 mph and partly cloudy skies.

Friday’s morning low will be 49 degrees. Friday’s afternoon high will climb to 77 degrees, with mostly clear skies.
