A proposal to handle marijuana-possession cases differently in Lawrence has been mentioned in the pro-marijuana magazine "High Times."

An Oct. 5 article on the magazine's Web site lists Lawrence alongside Denver and Telluride, Colo., and Traverse City and Ferndale, Mich., as cities that are considering changing their marijuana laws.

At the request of a newly formed group, Drug Policy Forum of Kansas, city commissioners are looking into drafting an ordinance that would send marijuana-possession cases into municipal court instead of district court. The group also wants to make marijuana possession a low priority for police, an idea that most city commissioners said last month they opposed.

City commissioners heard a presentation from the group at their Sept. 6 meeting and asked staff to research the subject further.

hey, i'd rather have the company of the occasional pot smoker than the every day wiskey drinking, cigar smoking, lounge chair sittin' fat man anyday.

cigarettes bad--pot good, uh right?

and the lord mayor Boog said: "its just a little pot."

just a little alcohol can mess with peoples mind too.

and from what i understand, if you eat a pound of pot, it wont kill you or give you a hangover, however, if you drink a 16 oz cup of whiskey, i would be willing to bet, that you would have a hard time convincing your friends to not take you to the hospital.

it has been proven time and time again that alcohol is far more dangerous than pot,

the drinking age here where i live is 21 it seems to be a good deterrent for keeping kids away from alcohol.

but you can ask just about any high school kid which is easier to get alcohol or pot (which is out and out banned and prohibited) the kids would most likely say it is easier to get pot.

that is a serious disconnect. why would a kid be able to obtain pot easier than alcohol?

kids do things because they want to rebel, there is a stigma with pot and kids are attracted to that stigmatic taboo.

if the government was serously intent of lowering marijuana use in the united states,

they would legalize it and place severe restrictions on age and any form of advertisement.

lying to the genral public about any precived dangers is irresponsible and breeds dissent.

dont forget, alcohol is a very powerful DRUG! and no one has the right to operate any heavy equipment (vehicles or other) while under the influence of ANY drug

seriously, what is the problem with letting adults make their own choice as to wheather they want to use marijuana, nicotine or alcohol?
