K.C. Sumner starts fast, stops Seahawks

? Seabury Academy’s boys soccer squad spotted Kansas City Sumner a four-goal lead Monday, and that was insurmountable as the Seahawks lost, 5-2.

Max Cannon and Philip Anderson scored Seabury’s two goals, both in the second half.

Peter Zemansky assisted on Cannon’s goal.

Seabury coach Gunar Harmon said his squad should have relaxed the entire game, instead of just in the second half.

Sumner led, 4-0, at halftime, but didn’t score its fifth goal until a penalty kick in the game’s final 30 seconds.

“Maybe I painted Sumner Academy to be a vaunted foe, and we didn’t play too well the first half,” he said.

“We have a bad habit of giving the other team an early goal. (We) show resiliency, there’s no doubt about that. It’s just that four goals are too much to overcome.”

Seabury’s regular season is finished, and the Seahawks (4-7-2) must wait for their state regional assignment.

“We feel pretty good. We’ve improved a lot, considering where we started,” Harmon said. “I look forward to whomever our regional opponent is, but we’ve got a good team, and we’re ready to play.

“We have a whole week of practice before then, so we’ve got plenty of time to work out the kinks.”
