Tennis squad qualifies players for regional

Kansas University’s tennis team has qualified six individuals and three doubles tandems for the ITA Central Region Women’s Championships.

Qualifiers for the main singles draw are Christine Skoda and Elizaveta Avdeeva. Skoda, the team’s lone senior, has posted a 4-4 record in singles this fall. Avdeeva, a sophomore, is 1-5.

Sophomore Lauren Hommell, junior Brittany Brown and freshmen Ksenia Bukina and Edina Horvath also will compete in the qualifying round.

Kansas’ duos of Avdeeva-Bukina, Hommell-Horvath and Brown and Skoda will participate.

“We are very impressed with our number of qualifiers,”KU coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “We are especially pleased about sending all of our doubles teams that we had hoped to.”

The championships will begin with qualifying matches Oct. 19. The main draw will begin Oct. 20 and run through Oct. 23.
