Temperatures took a nose dive overnight in Lawrence, bottoming out in the low 40s. But this morning’s wind chill made it seem more like the upper 30s.

“It’s a chilly start, make sure you have a jacket on the way out,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. .”It’s quite a change, once that cold front moved in (Wednesday). And it looks like it will last through the weekend.”

At 8 a.m., the temperature was 41 degrees, the humidity was 73 percent and winds were from the northwest at 8 mph. The wind chill was 36 degrees.

“We’re heading up to 56 degrees this afternoon,” Schack said. Winds will be from the north today at 10 to 15 mph. Skies will be partly cloudy.

“The winds let up tonight, but I don’t think they’ll remain calm,” Schack said. That means conditions will probably not be ripe for any widespread frost overnight, she said. However, there could still be some patches of frost developing Friday morning, as the low drops to 34 degrees.

Friday’s skies will be mostly sunny, with the high reaching 57 degrees, Schack said.

The National Weather Service says that there’s a greater chance for more widespread frost on Saturday morning, because winds will be mostly calm.

Saturday’s morning low will drop to 34 degrees, with the high reaching 61 degrees on Saturday afternoon.
