Wise gets game-winning goal for Tigers who escape Bullets 8-7

Two comebacks highlighted the 7U Tigers and Blue Bullets soccer match.

The Tigers pulled through in the end to beat the Blue Bullets 8-7 Saturday at Youth Sports Inc.

Tigers player Drew Wise started the game hot by netting a goal in the first minute of the game.

The Blue Bullets quickly answered with a goal of their own as Blue Bullet Maggie Carver escaped defenders to touch the ball into the goal.

Wise finished the first quarter strong with his second goal of the game. The Tigers led 2-1 heading into the second quarter.

The Tigers applied high pressure to start the second quarter. Arlo March, Tigers player, sent two balls into the back of the net. Wise added his third goal of the game to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.

Then the Blue Bullets decided it was time for a comeback.

Brett Carver scored back-to-back goals for the Blue Bullets as time expired in the first half, cutting the Tigers’ lead to 5-3.

The third quarter belonged to Christopher Foglesong of the Blue Bullets. Foglesong recorded four goals to start the second half.

The Blue Bullets’ defense held the Tiger offense scoreless during the third quarter and left the score 7-5 in favor of the Blue Bullets.

But the Tigers had a comeback of their own in store.

Jaered Long scored a goal two minutes into the fourth quarter for the Tigers. Wise got back in the scoring groove with his fourth goal of the game, which also tied the game at seven goals apiece.

The game remained tied until the last seconds of the game. Wise kicked the ball into the back of the net just as the referee blew the final whistle. Wise ended the game with five overall goals, including both the game-tying and game-winning goals.
