New home for old house approved

City commissioners Tuesday night unanimously agreed to clear the way for an early 1900s home to be moved to a new location so it will not be torn down by developers.

Commissioners agreed to grant an exception to a building permit moratorium that currently is in place along the abandoned Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad line in East Lawrence.

The exemption will allow Greg Seibel to move a house from 1503 Haskell Ave. to 1313 Haskell Ave.

The property at 15th Street and Haskell Avenue is being redeveloped into a single family neighborhood.

The moratorium is in place to allow planners time to determine how the area along the abandoned railroad line should be developed. It is scheduled to end in late November.
