Forum to address myths about offenders

The Kansas Department of Corrections will conduct a forum this month about offenders living in the community

The event, titled “Staying Aware,” will address questions such as, “How are offenders supervised in the community?” and “What can I do if an offender moves into my neighborhood.”

It will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Olathe Bible Church, 13700 W. 151st St.

“There are many myths about offenders that have perpetuated a great deal of anxiety and frustration in our communities,” said Frances Breyne, a KDOC spokeswoman.

“The more we challenge those myths and educate ourselves about the reality of offenders living among us, the better chance we have of protecting ourselves and our families against victimization.”
