Firebirds can’t finish in loss to Olathe South

? Free State High’s soccer squad missed opportunities to score Tuesday night and lost, 3-1, to Olathe South at the Olathe District Activities Center.

Brian Bracciano scored the Firebirds’ goal off an assist from Eric Slan, but Free State couldn’t score again. FSHS coach Jason Pendleton lamented the missed chances, including a shot that hit the Olathe South goalpost in the first 10 minutes.

“We had some chances, and we just gotta convert a little better when we get opportunities (to score),” he said, noting that O-South was “definitely one of the top teams in our league.”

Pendleton cited forward/midfielder Greg Glatz, defender Aaron Ideus and midfielder K.J. Siebert for solid play Tuesday.

The Firebirds (7-3-1) will play host to Shawnee Mission North at 11 a.m. Saturday at Free State’s field, and Pendleton said he didn’t know much about the Indians.

“In order to be successful, we’re going to have to play well,” Pendleton said.
