Compared to last week, not enough slaughter steers or heifers on offer to establish a market trend. The direct fed cattle market gained ground last week as live sales were mostly steady to 1.00 higher at 87.00 while dressed sales were 2.00 higher at 136.00-137.00. Slaughter cows and bulls in St. Joe sold mostly steady.

Slaughter Steers: Small Pkg Select and Choice 2-3 1343 lbs 82.00.

Slaughter Cows: Breaking 70-80 percent lean 53.00-57.25, high dressing up to 58.00. Boning 80-85 percent lean 51.00-55.00, high dressing 57.00-61.00. Lean 85-90 percent lean 44.00-47.00, high dressing 49.00-53.00, low dressing 40.00-42.00.

Slaughter Bulls: Yield Grade 1-2 1155-2210 lbs 62.25-67.00.

Feeder/Stocker Cows: Medium and Large 1-2 2-4 years old open 950-1050 lbs 71.00-83.25, 4-7 years old 955-1255 lbs 58.50-68.50.

Chicago Board of Trade

Grain and soybean futures finished higher Monday on the Chicago Board of Trade.

Wheat for December delivery rose 2 1/2 cents to $3.48 3/4 a bushel; December corn rose 3 1/4 cents to $2.08 3/4 a bushel; December oats rose 3/4 cent to $1.62 1/4 a bushel; November soybeans rose 7 3/4 cents to $5.81 a bushel.

Beef and pork futures increased on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

December live cattle rose .22 cent to 90.22 cents a pound; November feeder cattle rose .45 cent to $1.154 a pound; December lean hogs rose 1.65 cent to 65 cents a pound; February pork bellies rose 1.52 cent to 91.80 cents a pound.
