Tickets available to NAACP banquet

Tickets are still available for the Oct. 22 Lawrence branch of the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet.

The banquet will feature guest speaker Rod Bremby, Kansas secretary of Health and Environment and will be held in the Kansas Union Ballroom. The master of ceremonies will be KMBC Channel 9 meteorologist Bryan Busby.

Among the other participants will be Dylan Theno, who was successful in a lawsuit against the Tonganoxie school district for failing to protect him from sexual harassment from other students; Jesse Milan, one of the first black teachers in the Lawrence school district; Moussa Elbayoumy, director of the Lawrence Islamic Center; Mayor Boog Highberger and Charles Jean Baptiste, Kansas State NAACP president.

Tickets are $30 per person with proceeds going to a scholarship fund. The theme of this year’s banquet is “The Time is NOW.”
