‘Ballad of Black Jack’ music for sale

“The Ballad of Black Jack,” a local historical musical about Douglas County’s “Bleeding Kansas” history, has released a CD of the show’s music, written by Baldwin playwright and composer Don Mueller. The studio recording was performed by current or former cast members, accompanied by a four-piece orchestra, including Mueller on piano. Lawrence recording engineer Jason Slote recorded and mixed the CD, which features 14 of the show’s songs.

The CD also features two bonus tracks from the 1986 production at Liberty Hall, including “Stand Tall, Stand Free” sung by the late Charley Oldfather as John Brown.

The CD is available at www.balladofblackjack.org, and it may be purchased at this year’s performances, which will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 14-15 and 2 p.m. Oct. 16 in Baker University’s Rice Auditorium.
