Old home town – 40 years ago today

Anti-Vietnam War protests continued. American servicemen were beginning to write home asking if this meant the nation did not support them in their efforts and was in effect “turning its back on them.”

Many local farmers reported that 1965 would be registered as one of their better years, despite unusual weather patterns. Rain in abnormal amounts at odd times had been a major troublemaker, but most said they had benefitted more than they had been hurt by the erratic weather conditions of 1965.
