Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 30, 1905: “A day that was perfect for football in its sunshine and crispness was provided as some 8,000 people watched Kansas defeat Missouri 24-0 in football today in Kansas City. It was a clean, fast game that unfortunately was one-sided. It was the 15th annual encounter of the two universities and the victory allowed coach Bert Kennedy’s team to close the season with a 10-1 record, the lone loss being to powerful Colorado. The battered Kansans in their blue jerseys fought long and hard and overcame their weakness with sheer will and grit. It was a marvelous holiday occasion for Kansans. : The churches of Lawrence were quieter this year in their Thanksgiving charity work but were just as effective as ever. The poor were all looked after and if a family in this city has not been treated to something good today, it can be compensated because nobody was intentionally overlooked. We need to share our good fortune with those less so. : This was a crisp, cold morning and we can now expect regular inroads from winter.”
