Building permit moratorium extended

Douglas County commissioners on Monday agreed to extend a moratorium on the issuance on building permits for newly created lots that developers want to build on using the county’s 5-acre exemption rule.

The moratorium had been scheduled to end Wednesday, but commissioners unanimously agreed to extend it until May 31. County commissioners adopted the moratorium in June to give them time to review and make changes to the county’s subdivision regulations.

Commissioners have scheduled a review of proposed changes to the subdivision regulations for their meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The 5-acre exemption rule generally allows people to build a home on at least 5 acres of property in rural parts of the county without going through the rezoning or platting process.
