Sebelius: Support local Christmas tree farms

? Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is urging Kansans to buy Kansas-grown Christmas trees to help grow the industry that brings in $10 million per year.

“Christmas tree farms and the activities that go with them are a great example of agritourism,” Sebelius said.

On Monday, the official Christmas tree for the governor’s mansion will arrive. The 10-foot scotch pine was grown at Windy Knoll Trees, near Derby.

Phil Wegman, a former president of the Kansas Christmas Tree Growers Assn., said many of the approximately 100 Christmas tree growers in the state have expanded their businesses to include hay rides, Santa visits, light displays and other holiday activities.
