Douglas County Clerk-elect Patty Jaimes said she had asked the outgoing clerk, the retiring Delbert Mathia, to stay on as her administrative assistant after she took office in January. Mathia, who had not sought re-election after a long career in the job, said he was “leaning toward staying to help out a while” but had not fully decided.

The Kansas Board of Regents postponed action on a supplemental salary increase request for classified employees working in service agencies at the various regents institutions. KU was seeking about $70,000 in additional funds to handle the matter.

Kansas University officials stressed that recruiting of top students had become as fiercely competitive as the recruiting of star athletes. They said the university needed more resources and greater outreach to continue to bring the “best and the brightest” to the local campus. Increased funding for attracting new students was considered an absolute must for university leaders.
