Santa to arrive in downtown this evening

November 25, 2005

Santa Claus will make his annual arrival for the holiday season in downtown Lawrence tonight.

Santa's sleigh is cleared for landing at 6 tonight atop the roof of Weavers Department Store.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical crews will be on the scene to rescue the Jolly old elf from the rooftop, bringing him down on a ladder truck.

Then St. Nick will be available to hear the holiday wishes from the children on hand.

In case you can't make it down to Ninth and Massachusetts to see the annual holiday spectacle, 6News will have live coverage of Santa's arrival at 6 p.m. on Sunflower Broadband's Channel 6.

We went to Santa's arrival downtown, for the first time ever, and it was wonderful! I can assure you that no commercialism (nor anything else) has been or will be rammed down my throat. I didn't spend a penny today and I plan to never fight people in lines to shop on a crazy day like today. I prefer to do most of my shopping crowds and shopping at a leisurely pace :-)

I really have to commend the downtown merchants for the Santa show, though. We took our daughter, who is just about to turn 2, and the look of wonder and excitement on her face is something I hope I never forget. It was one of those rare beautiful moments that I will cherish forever. There was absolutely nothing commercial about the was all about excited and happy children and I loved it.

I went to the show, and was disturbed to discover that Santa has, apparently, been dieting. I mean, Mr. Claus looked like he couldn't have weighed more than 250. WHAT'S THE DEAL, SANTA?????!!!!???? You, of all people, look better fatter!!!!!
