Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 25. 1905: “Dr. Simeon Bell of Rosedale who has generously given property in that city on which to erect six hospital buildings as additions to the medical department of the state university has added $20,000 to his gift total. He is paying tribute to his dead wife with Eleanor Taylor Bell Memorial gifts. : Kansas University, despite injuries to many key men, defeated Kansas State University 28-0 in Lawrence and looked very good in doing so. The Farmers had high expectations which were dashed quickly. : The county treasurer says local citizens are paying their bills more readily this year than last owing to more abundant crop seasons and better times. Taxes this year are a bit higher but still are being paid sooner. : At one time it appeared there might be a shortage of turkeys for Thanksgiving but the supply seems good even though the price is up to around 20 cents a pound.”
