Temporary Oskaloosa superintendent named

? A retired former Holton school superintendent was named temporary superintendent of the Oskaloosa school district Tuesday night.

Jerry Fuqua was selected by the school board to hold the position until Jan. 1, said Roy Artman, board president.

The action was taken because last week the board suspended with pay Supt. Loren Lutes.

Artman and other board members aren’t saying much about why Lutes was suspended.

David Shriver, a Kansas Association of School Boards attorney working with the board, has said the suspension stemmed from an incomplete annual audit of the district. An audit firm needed some information that wasn’t being provided in a timely manner, Shriver said.

He also said there was no indication of any wrongdoing on the part of Lutes.
