Officials investigating apartment fire
A fire that damaged an apartment Tuesday evening is under investigation by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.
Firefighters responded shortly before 5 p.m. to an apartment building at 501 Colo. Smoke was reported coming from one of the apartments.
No one was home at the time of the fire. A mother and three children lived in the apartment, and they were receiving assistance from the Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross.
There was no damage estimate available for the fire Tuesday night. A fire official said most of the damage was caused by smoke.
