Warming into the 50s today

Patchy clouds were making for a murky morning in Lawrence. But there will be a little more sun this afternoon as temperatures climb into the mid 50s, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“You’ll want to have a jacket or a coat this morning,” Schack said. “It looks like a mild afternoon after a chilly start. . . . It looks like we’re heading above average today.”

At 8:30 a.m., the temperature was 38 degrees, the humidity was 73 percent and winds were from the west-northwest at 5 mph. Skies were mostly cloudy.

Today’s high is expected to rise to 55 degrees, with partly cloudy skies and winds from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph. The average high for today is 50 degrees.

Overnight, skies will continue to be partly cloudy, with the temperature dropping to a low of 36 degrees by Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will be much warmer, with temperatures soaring into the 60s, Schack said. Wednesday’s high will be 66 degrees.

However, cooler air arrives on Thursday, putting a chill on the Thanksgiving holiday, Schack said. Thursday’s morning low will be 31 degrees, with Thursday’s high climbing to only 48 degrees, she said.

“The dry weather is going to last all the way through the weekend,” Schack said.
