Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 20, 1905: “Now that we have natural gas in Lawrence, words of caution are due about the proper use. Prof. Haworth of the university is preparing a list of precautions for people to take and it is well that all of us heed them. The greatest danger is from leaks in the pipes. While the gas is a great boon, it also requires care and constant monitoring to prevent tragedy. : There is concern again that there will not be enough turkeys for Thanksgiving because of too many efforts in the east to control the market. But as in the past, anyone wanting a turkey will be able to find it, even if it costs a little more.”
