Baylor streak reaches 23

? A tired Baylor still was good enough to handle a rested Indiana.

Sophia Young had 19 points and 16 rebounds Saturday night as the sixth-ranked and defending NCAA champions, playing their third game in seven days, beat the Hoosiers, 74-62, for their 23rd straight victory.

The Bears took a charter flight from Waco, Texas, right after a game against UCLA on Friday night, arrived in Bloomington about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, grabbed a few hours of sleep and spent 45 minutes on a short bus ride to Assembly Hall because of traffic from Indiana’s football game against Purdue.

It didn’t matter.

“We were a little bit tired, because we had a tough game against UCLA,” Young said. “I think we got enough sleep, but the transition was kind of tough.”

Angela Tisdale also had 19 points, and Abiola Wabara added a career-high 17 for the Bears (3-0).

Arkansas State 70, Missouri 67

The Tigers, led by Tiffany Brooks’ 15 points, hit 61 percent of their field-goal attempts in the second half.

Stillwater, Okla. – Joyce Ekworomadu scored a game-high 23 points, and two other Texas State players scored in double digits to lead the Bobcats over Oklahoma State, spoiling first-year Cowgirls coach Kurt Budke’s debut.
