Pancho’s closure makes room at Malls

Moves at The Malls Shopping Center will allow for the expansion of Rent-A-Center and the relocation of Oriental Supermarket.

Closing this week to make room for the moves: Pancho’s, a family-owned Mexican restaurant that has been serving nachos, fresh vegetables and dozens of authentic dishes for nearly 17 years.

“We had a chance to get out of our lease a little early, so Pancho can retire altogether and have some time to relax,” said Francisco “Frank” Lemus Jr., of his 70-year-old father, known as Pancho. “But it was one of the most difficult things we’ve ever done. We have such a relationship with our customers – and we didn’t call them customers; they were family – that there was a lot of hugs and a lot of crying.”

Oriental Supermarket is set to move into the soon-to-be-vacated restaurant space at 711 W. 23rd St., so that Rent-A-Center can expand into the supermarket space.

Pancho’s had 23 employees.
