Baylor slips past UCLA

? Sophia Young scored 26 points and Angela Tisdale added 23 to lead No. 6 Baylor to a 93-85 victory over UCLA on Friday night.

The victory extended the Bears’ winning streak to a school-record 22 games. Baylor played its home opener in front of 9,065 fans, the largest opening-game crowd in school history.

UCLA (0-1) hung tough against the defending national champions, cutting the deficit to 74-69 with just under six minutes remaining. However, the Bears (2-0) used a 9-3 run to extend their lead to 83-72 with 3:17 left.

Young, who played the entire 40 minutes, capped the spurt with a three-point play.

New Mexico 76, No. 12 Texas 68

Austin, Texas — Dionne Marsh scored 24 points, and New Mexico handed Texas a rare home loss.

New Mexico (3-1) trailed 35-32 at halftime, but rallied by shooting 61 percent in the second half.
