K-State’s stadium named for Snyder

? When coach Bill Snyder ends his 17-year career at Kansas State University with his last game on Saturday, it will be in a stadium bearing his name.

The Kansas Board of Regents on Wednesday unanimously approved renaming the stadium Bill Synder Family Football Stadium. It had been known simply as KSU Stadium.

The change is immediate, which means Synder, who announced his retirement Tuesday, will see his team play its final game of the season against Missouri in a stadium named for him. KSU officials plan to announce the name change then.

“It is certainly an honor to approve this new name which reflects coach Snyder’s tremendous contributions, not only to Kansas State University, but also to the entire state of Kansas,” said Regents Vice Chairman Nelson Galle of Manhattan.

The 66-year-old Snyder will stay on until his successor is named. Athletic director Tim Weiser isn’t saying how long that will be, or speculating on who will follow the man who engineered the “Miracle in Manhattan.”

Snyder will remain on the university’s payroll as a special assistant to Weiser, but that won’t require the long hours that helped define Snyder’s tenure. His 135-68-1 record includes a run of 11 straight bowl games that began with the 1993 season.
