Del Shankel, acting Kansas University chancellor, said KU officials would have protected an Israeli speaker from pro-Arab protesters had he gone ahead with his speech here as scheduled. Shankel said the decision of consul Ahub Gol from Chicago not to talk on the campus because of concern about protests was regrettable and that there was no room for stifling of honest opinions by speakers.
