Because it had failed to meet its $325,425 goal, the Lawrence United Fund drive was extended another week. Only 84 percent of the amount had been collected but UF president Hank Booth said he was optimistic the drive extension could close the gap.

About 300 attended a Chamber of Commerce farm-city mixer. Lawrence Mayor Ed Carter lauded “the exceptionally productive relationship” Lawrence had with its agricultural community.
