Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 13, 1905: “There is good feeling about the new library building and the fact so many are using it to educate themselves. The Carnegie people who made the library possible deserve the highest commendation. A good library is vital to any good community. : It won’t be long until we have some real winter. The thermometer here this morning was at 35 degrees and some say we will have a colder winter than usual. : It may interest many that the State Sunday School Union has done much to start new classes around Kansas and that attendance is going up steadily. : John Milton White, 79, died at his home near Eudora. He was one of the oldest settlers in the community and burial was in Hesper Cemetery. : The athletic board at the university is meeting with Nebraska officials with the idea that competition between the schools can be resumed. There had been bad feelings leading to the interruption but apparently efforts are being made to improve things. There definitely seems to be sentiment about renewal of football relations.”
