Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 12, 1905: “When the trustees of the YMCA decided to build a proper home for the association in Lawrence, they agreed it would not be opened until it was free of debt. The handsome and adequate new building is now nearly ready for occupancy but still needs some more money. The building has cost about $30,000, the lot $5,000 and with the furnishings the total cost will be nearly $40,000. Right now, $6,000 more is needed for the opening. : The violators of local laws are having a tough time in this term of district court. Sentences have been stiff, particularly for those breaking prohibitory laws, and many are pleased at the situation.”
