Raiders hammer Spartans

? Jarious Jackson scored 19 points Thursday night as Texas Tech defeated San Jose State, 88-54, in the first round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.

Tech (1-0), which was led by a fairly young squad most of the game, outscored the Spartans 26-12 in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Jon Plefka added 15 points and eight rebounds, along with Terry Martins’ 13 points in their Red Raider debuts. Martin shot 75 percent from three-point range, hitting three of Tech’s nine from outside the arc.

Matt Misko and Carlton Spencer each had 10 points to lead San Jose State (0-1), while Kevin Fleming grabbed nine rebounds for the Spartans.

Tech led by as many as 37 points in the second half, thanks in part to shooting 56 percent as a team overall and outrebounding the Spartans, 43-38.

San Jose State tried to keep it close in the first half and even took an early 16-13 lead. The lead lasted less than a minute for the Spartans before Jackson and Martin combined for a 13-2 run to put Tech out in front for good.
