Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 11, 1905: “The university won its big football game against previously unbeaten Washburn in Topeka by a score of 18-11. KU now has an 8-1 record with two games left, Kansas State here and Missouri at Kansas City. The local team had a strong group of support but was disappointed because it had hoped to hold Washburn scoreless. Washburn was much stronger than anticipated and put up a plucky game. : From Norman comes the news that Ben Owen’s Oklahoma football team cannot practice because of a strike among the scrubs. The scrubs say their expenses are not being met and that they will not return until they are. : Mimi Rush who was brought home from Eureka four weeks ago with typhoid fever has suffered a relapse and is dangerously ill again. Dana Gatlin, suffering from the same disease, could not be taken from Eureka to her home in Paola and it is learned that Martha Jackman, a former KU student, also has typhoid fever, though not as bad a case as the other two victims.”
