¢ Sloan, Reaney Shine: Ben Sloan and Emma Reaney of the Lawrence Aquahawks each earned 10 gold medals at the Lightning Spooktacular swim meet at LIAC. The Aquahawks’ Chloe Portela won nine events. Other multi-event winners were Zach Andregg five; Adriane Black and Sarah Schwartz four; Phoebe Grabill, Emily Martin and Reilly Moore three; and Canaan Campbell, Reese Grabill, Austin Green, Marvaughon Harvey and Hunter Robinson two.

¢ Volleyball Tryouts: Lawrence Juniors Volleyball Club, a Junior Olympic volleyball team regulated through the Heart of America Conference, will hold U-15 tryouts at 2 p.m. Saturday at Seabury Academy. For information, call Ann Weygint at 785-766-2535 or e-mail vawegint@yahoo.com.

¢ Roberts JGC Winner: Conrad Roberts fired a one-under-par 71 and won the Jayhawk Golf Club tournament Sunday at Alvamar. Rob Werling was runner-up with a 74. Van Reichert shot a 75. In net scoring, Bud Stagg and Jeff Miller shared low honors, each with a 70. Keith Wallace carded a 75. The JGC season will conclude Saturday with a tourney honoring departing pro Brad Demo. Call G. ¢ Soccer Instruction: Mark Francis and Jason Pendleton, soccer coaches at Kansas University and Free State High, will offer indoor skills training sessions during December. For information, go to www.kansassocceracademy.com.

¢ Bird Honored: Taylor Bird of Lawrence has been chosen Missouri Valley AAU U-14 girls basketball player of the year. Bird, who also won the award last year, plays for the Missouri Valley Eclipse.
