Not reassuring

To the editor:

The recent city response to the sanitary sewer problems is far from reassuring. First, the city planners alert citizens to a serious potential problem with the sewer system identified during a recent heavy rain. Next, the growth is grossly underestimated and new development will most certainly cause problems. Now the citizens of Lawrence are supposed to feel comforted that there was probably not a problem with the math used to estimate housing and resident growth potential per acre.

In fact, if the city throws a mere million dollars at the problem – whatever the problem might be – everything should be OK. Could there be a problem with this rhetoric other than lack of credibility and the absence of facts?
