Fall weather breezes in
Hold on tight to your basketball tickets — strong northerly breezes and cool temperatures are bringing blustery conditions to Kansas University’s campus today.
Winds will be from the north at 10 to 15 mph by the time fans start heading out to KU’s Allen Fieldhouse for tonight’s 7 p.m. men’s basketball exhibition game against Fort Hays State University .
“The winds may be gusting as high as 25 mph. Fall has definitely returned,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist.
“It’s kind of a shocker compared to what we’ve seen in the last couple of days,” Reith said. Unlike Tuesday, when the temperature climbed to 80, today’s thermometer readings will reach only the upper 50s, he said.
At 9:30 a.m., the temperature was 50 degrees, the humidity was 58 percent and winds were from the north-northwest at 14 mph, making the wind chill 45 degrees. Skies were mostly sunny.
The temperature will climb to 54 degrees by noon and eventually reach a high of 59 degrees by late afternoon.
Then the temperature will plunge overnight, reaching a low of 29 degrees by early Thursday morning, bringing widespread frost to the area, Reith said.
“It’s going to be a very chilly start to your Thursday,” he said. “It’s going to feel like winter.”
Thursday’s high will climb to only 62 degrees, with partly cloudy skies, Reith said.
Friday’s morning low will be 41 degrees, with Friday’s high climbing to 71 degrees.
