City snow plows will be traveling Lawrence streets today.

Employees in the city’s Street Maintenance Division will conduct a practice run to prepare for future snow events. The 37 employees will inspect equipment, locate the required gear and travel their assigned routes.

The practice will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The city also is reminding Lawrence citizens that a city ordinance requires that residents remove snow and ice from sidewalks that are adjacent to their homes. Removal of snow and ice from the sidewalks must be done within 24 hours after a snow or ice storm ends.

If removal is not possible, sand must be placed on the sidewalk within 24 hours.
