Nine landowners had filed suit to prevent a Jefferson County rock quarry from becoming a landfill but it appeared the N.R. Hamm Quarry Co. would get full approval because the legal action had come too late. The neighbors said the landfill would be an environmental disaster and an odoriferous nuisance. Despite the opposition, the landfill eventually was approved.
