Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 6, 1905: “In securing the Tissot collection of Biblical paintings, the university has one of the best examples of the art of illustration. Among the 396 paintings are many of exceptional artistic beauty and single admission is only 25 cents with children under 12 admitted for 10 cents. : Many are anticipating a great football game between Kansas and Washburn on Nov. 11 in Topeka. Tickets should be at a premium. Washburn is unbeaten and KU has lost only one game, at Colorado. : It took only 23 minutes to send natural gas from Lawrence to Topeka yesterday. The test was made and the flow was all that could be expected. Many here are delighted by lower bills through the new gas service. : There is just one way for local merchants to beat the mail order business and that is by good service and advertising. : Rain and snow fell in varying amounts last week but they were not sufficient to provide good help to the winter wheat crop.”
