City, KU to receive recycling grants

The city of Lawrence and Kansas University’s Center for Research will each receive grants for recycling and compost projects, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced Friday.

The city will receive $85,000, and KU will receive $66,782 for the projects to enhance recycling efforts. All of the 21 approved grants in the state will help conserve landfill space, the governor’s office said.

The state awarded $1.5 million in grants, announced Thursday by Sebelius and Rod Bremby, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
