Peter Tuttle, a member of Boy Scout Troop 52, received his Eagle rank at a Court of Honor on Oct. 30 at St. Lawrence Catholic Center.

Peter began Scouting as a Tiger Cub. He graduated from Pack 3052, chartered to Broken Arrow School. He earned the Webelos Badge and Compass Patch. He received the Arrow of Light, Cub Scouting’s highest award, in 1999.

Peter is a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and a brave in the tribe of Mic-o-say, an honor camping society at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. He earned 45 merit badges as well as the Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pious XII awards from the Catholic church.

He has attended Camp Bartle and Camp Theodore Naish Scout Reservation, where he served on the staff for four summers. He most recently was director of the Nature Lodge.

Peter has served in troop leadership positions including patrol leader. He is active in Venture Crew 2691 and has received the Ranger Award. He is treasurer for the crew.

He has earned the 50 Miler Award three times, the BSA Snorkeling and BSA Scuba awards. He has attended high adventure courses in New Mexico, Florida and Colorado.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he revitalized the cross country ski trail at Clinton State Park. He made a map and brochure promoting the trail. He erected a two-post kiosk at the trailhead that shows the map and provides safety information for using the trail.

Peter, a senior at Lawrence High School, is the son of Herb and Jane Tuttle.

¢ The Pelathe District had its 20th annual Eagle Scout recognition dinner Oct. 21 at the Lawrence County Club. The dinner honors scouts who received their Eagle Scout during the past year.

Keith Wood was master of ceremonies. David Berkowitz gave the Invocation. Two Eagle Scouts, Ben Gleeson and Phil Wrigley, were guest speakers and talked about their experiences since they received the Eagle Scout Award.

Richard Bailey gave information about the National Eagle Society, and John Sayler talked about the S.A.R. Scholarship.

¢ Venture Crew 2691, chartered to the Wesleyan Church of Lawrence, and Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to First United Methodist Church, recently hiked in the Irish Wilderness in Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri.

The Scouts conducted a 10-mile hike in preparation for their trip to the Philmont Double H Ranch in July 2006. They also trained with water purification and land navigation devices, including maps, compasses and GPS. Youths attending were: Henry Reiske, Dom Rieske, Brendan Golledge, Richard Rawlings and Michael Smith. They were accompanied by adult leaders: Will Sharp, Glen Sharp, Bruce Wagner, Herb Tuttle, Chris Golledge, Doug Rawlings and Harry Smith.

¢ Girl Scout Troops 585 and 740 are collecting used eyeglasses which will be donated to the Lions Club for distribution to the needy in developing countries. Collection boxes are in the lobbies of Lawrence Public Library, Lawrence Realty Inc. and The Community Mercantile through Nov. 12. Donation also may be picked up. To request a pickup, call 864-4625.
