Five top candidates for the presidency at Haskell Indian Junior College were to be interviewed by a special panel. A successor was being sought for the resigned Wallace Galluzzi. Kansas University also was seeking a new chancellor after the resignation of Archie Dykes.

Hiring a professional negotiator to bargain with teachers during contract talks bordered on unfairness, one school board member felt. Bob Davis, the opponent, cast the lone dissenting vote when the board decided 6-1 to rehire attorney Jack Brand as the negotiator. Brand had been the board’s negotiator since 1970.

James Bibb, the state’s former budget director, said Gov. John Carlin probably would honor most or all of Kansas University’s requested staff and faculty salary increase for the coming year. Bibb was KU’s new financial officer and was looking at budget issues from the other side of the fence. Beyond the salary increases, however, Bibb was not certain what to expect in the way of KU funding by the 1981 Kansas Legislature.
